An open system architecture...

If the back of Clyde's pick-up could easily be turned into an open system, could architects design buildings that could be open systems with themselves and not closed ones run on machines? If so, what would it even look like?

  1. I think that a building that can work as part of nature already exists in many parts of the world, it just takes an understanding of the materials to create a structure that can meet the needs of the inhabitants. In reality even the cabin of the truck or the greatest structures we've made will eventually revert to basic elements so in a since we never have left the natural cycle that controls the world around us.

  2. Right, but what would that even look like? And is that even really possible? I find it hard to believe that a man-made structure could be so compatible with its surroundings, not just in appearance because we've already achieved that, but to live in symbiosis with its surroundings. And how will they revert back to their natural elements? There seems to be a lot of unanswered questions and general statements in your comment. I mean, is it really just the materials we use that will accomplish this? I would disagree an say that it is the use and way we use those materials that will be the solution. But even in that, I still find it hard to believe that this could be accomplished to the extent to what many are trying to do with "cradle to cradle" architecture.
